Chess, Saturday standings: Dev 31, me 14. He has started offering me a draw as a kindness. I have started declining it out of pride. Both of us are learning something.

Springwater Corridor, 5:10 a.m., 14 miles. Mile 1–4 is where the balance sheet gets thought about. Mile 12 is where I stop thinking at all. Both are necessary.

Audited this bank three years running before I joined it. Best career decision I made was picking up the phone and telling the CEO what I'd seen. Second best was him not hanging up.

Oregon Food Bank finance committee tonight. The thing nobody tells you about food banks: the logistics are harder than a bank's. The margins are thinner too.

Chicago Marathon confirmed for October. Third time. Goal: 3:40, and to not think about interest-rate risk between miles 18 and 22. One of those is realistic.
