Phil's Trail, 6:05 a.m., 14 miles, 41°F. Miguel's shop sponsors me, which Helen has confirmed is a declared conflict of interest. The bike is fast and the conflict is disclosed.

Sixty-one jars. Comice from the family orchard. Grandmother's 1961 recipe, unchanged. Branch staff get theirs in December; the board gets theirs when they visit Bend, which is my way of encouraging visits.

Second Chance Checking: 900 accounts. Started with a folding table and a theory. Still have the table.

Thursday salsa, year eleven. Miguel dipped me and the instructor applauded, which has happened twice in eleven years. The 2019 trophy remains very small and very visible.

A customer came into Bend today with the checkbook we gave her in 2018 through Second Chance. First account she'd been allowed to open in nine years. She's buying a house. She wanted me to know. I'm telling you.

Hood River, harvest weekend. The stand has a card reader now. My father still prefers the cash box. He is not wrong.

Oregon Trail Gravel Grinder, done, twice now. The second time hurt more. Mateo met me at the finish with a pear. I don't know where he got a pear in Sisters. I didn't ask.
